KSU Race Weekend
This weekend, the KU Cycling Race Team traveled to Manhattan, KS for this year’s first collegiate race. The weekend started off with a road race on Saturday, which every rider that raced can tell you was absolutely miserable! The wind chill was about 30 degrees, the wind was ferocious, and rain pelted our riders as they battled Mother Nature, as well as the other riders, to make it to the finish line. Luckily, everyone survived and some of our riders even posted some good results! Later that afternoon, the Team Time Trial had to be cancelled due to the miserable weather.
On Sunday, Mother Nature had a change of attitude, and we had beautiful weather for the Criterium Race. The course was a fast, pinched figure eight course with a few technical turns and a straight-away finish directly into the wind. We had a couple of riders go down in crashes, due to the aggressive turns, but they are both just fine!
Overall, it was a fun weekend and our team had a blast! We would also like to give a very special thanks to Amber Markey’s parents, Lyle and Kay Markey, for allowing us to stay in their home on Saturday night!
